Description
The word “Sandwich” was popularized in England by John Montagu in 1762. The anatomy of a sandwich essentially contains at least two slices of bread with condiments added, and in between the bread layers lies the flavor pocket, which can be made of anything from eggs to meat to seafood to vegetables, accompanied by various condiments and herbs or green leaves. The perfect sandwich can be characterized by a perfectly toasted bread that is not soggy with any of the juices that are in between the layers and the use of complementing flavors and textures in between. Chef Sudheera’s signature sandwich is inspired by these key characteristics and fused with novel flavors and ingredients that marry this global food phenomenon with a classic Sri Lankan flavor palette.
